Decoys play a major role in training K9’s. There is a lot more to being a decoy than just being bit by one of these K9’s. Decoys have to know how to read the dogs (and the handlers sometimes) well enough to know what each dog needs during the bite.
Many of the decoys volunteer their time to help train. They go through different types of decoying depending on what the dog may need. Whether its being in the bite suit, getting knocked down during muzzle techniques or by doing civil hides for the K9’s. Some of our decoys learn how to lay tracks for our K9’s so the dogs can learn to track on different surfaces.
We couldn’t do it without these brave souls.
