Decoys play a major role in training K9’s. There is a lot more to being a decoy than just being bit by one of these K9’s. Decoys have to know how to read the dogs (and the handlers sometimes) well enough to know what each dog needs during the bite.
Many of the decoys volunteer their time to help train. They get beat up, and knocked down, but keep coming back due to their love of the dogs and desire to help. They volunteer to be attacked by police K-9s repeatedly and are covered in sweat and bruises after each session.
We couldn’t do it without these brave souls.
